Super Spiel a huge success

All Yale Curlers
January 29, 2018

This weekend saw the highlight of our season. Our own Yale Super Spiel. Yale Vice President Eileen O’Connor opened the fourth Yale Super Spiel by throwing the ceremonial first rock.

18 teams from 13 universities came to Bridgeport to play in a Game of Stones. Including visiting parents and other spectators around 120 people were hosted by the Curlers who not only played in the competition but also provided 6 meals for all people, games for the warm room, decorations and a lot of organisaiton. The tournament started Friday night with the second draw ending close to midnight, Saturday preparations started at 4.30am to get the ice ready and the day finished at 1 am on Sunday with roughly 5 more hours of curling. While exhausting, it was incredibly rewarding to see curling friends from other universities.

The tournament was ultimately won by SUNY-Poly with the two Yale Teams on fourth and fifth place.

Prizes were given out by Team USA Curler Steve Emt who, together with some more teammates, visited before heading to the Pyeongchang to celebrate the sport of Curling and the University Curlers at Yale. After the ceremony he stayed to play a game with a few curlers.
